Scenario: In Windows XP, out of the blue suddenly a thunderbolt strikes you. In the thumbnail view the file name labels are missing. Panic starts to kick in. You wonder what has happened. You try all the preliminary health check for PC that you know of, system restart, virus scan, etc. Still no luck. Now you are growing anxious? Some of you will scamper for help on the internet, lucky you. The not so technically inclined would call up a tech friend or worse call tech support.

Solution: In windows XP, when you are switching between folders, if you hold down the shift key and click open a window. Voila, file names are not displayed only when you are in Thumbnails view. To get back the file names showing up, navigate outside the folder or drive, then click open the folder, drive holding down the shify key.

Is that a defect? nope that’s a rogue feature in Windows XP
